Hungarian Parliament and Rose Ice Cream – 7/6/2023

Posted on July 6, 2023July 8, 2023

This morning in Budapest we began with a tour of the Hungarian Parliament building. It is a beautiful building, made entirely from materials sourced within Hungary and built by Hungarian craftsmen. After the tour, we went to the Museum of Fine Arts and saw both the extensive permanent exhibit and a temporary exhibit. This museum was particularly fun as it is built into a former palace and is situated at the top of a hill on the Buda side of the Danube with great views out over the Pest side.

Side Note: Budapest is named for the two sides of the city spanning the river. Buda means West and Pest means East.

After the art gallery, we rode the M1 metro line (apparently the oldest subway line in all of Europe) to spend some time in a park where Ashton practiced his backflips on a trampoline. We ended the evening at a gelato/ice cream place that shapes their scoops into decorative roses. It was adjacent to St. Stephen’s Basilica, so we also got some evening photos in the square in front of it.
